Confirm availability, upgrade options and your exact order specifications with support. <a href=\"https:\/\/powervps.net\/\">PowerVPS catalog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>What Is the Difference Between Cores, Threads and vCPU?<\/h2>\n<p>A <strong>physical core<\/strong> is a processing unit inside a CPU. Multiple cores allow the processor to execute work in parallel.<\/p>\n<p>A <strong>hardware thread<\/strong> is a logical processor that the operating system can schedule work on. Some cores support two hardware threads through SMT or Hyper-Threading. These threads share core resources, so two threads are not equivalent to two full physical cores.<\/p>\n<p>For example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>8 cores \/ 16 threads<\/strong> means eight physical cores and sixteen hardware threads.<\/li>\n<li>Do not add these numbers together: this is not a 24-core processor.<\/li>\n<li>The thread count is not always twice the core count.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A <strong>vCPU<\/strong> is a virtual processor allocated to a virtual server. A plan with 4 vCPU provides four virtual processors inside the VPS. Upgrading from Ultra to Highload does not increase the number of virtual processors. <a href=\"https:\/\/powervps.net\/\">VPS specifications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Dedicated Servers<\/h2>\n<p>For a dedicated server, distinguish between the processor\u2019s specifications and the RAM and storage installed in the particular configuration.<\/p>\n<p>The table below lists the nominal physical core and hardware thread counts for each CPU. Confirm the complete model name and suffix with support before comparing it with a 3700X or another variant.<\/p>\n<h3>Intel Core i9-13900: Understanding Its Core Count<\/h3>\n<p>This processor has <strong>24 physical cores and 32 threads<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>8 performance cores, or P-cores, supporting two threads each;<\/li>\n<li>16 efficiency cores, or E-cores, supporting one thread each.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The totals are <strong>8 + 16 = 24 cores<\/strong> and <strong>16 + 16 = 32 threads<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>A \u201c16 cores\u201d description for this CPU does not match Intel\u2019s specifications. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intel.com\/content\/www\/us\/en\/products\/sku\/230499\/intel-core-i913900-processor-36m-cache-up-to-5-60-ghz\/specifications.html\">Intel Core i9-13900 specifications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Intel Core Ultra 7 265: Why It Has 20 Cores and 20 Threads<\/h3>\n<p>This processor has:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>8 P-cores;<\/li>\n<li>12 E-cores;<\/li>\n<li>one hardware thread per core.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The total is <strong>20 physical cores and 20 threads<\/strong>. The \u201ccores \u00d7 2\u201d calculation does not apply to this model. Both P-cores and E-cores are physical cores, although their capabilities differ. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intel.com\/content\/www\/us\/en\/products\/sku\/241068\/intel-core-ultra-7-processor-265-30m-cache-up-to-5-30-ghz\/specifications.html\">Intel Core Ultra 7 265 specifications<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Comparing the Other Configurations<\/h3>\n<p>Matching core counts do not guarantee matching performance. Check the logical CPU list and detailed topology table.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Proxmox<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the <strong>node Shell<\/strong> shows the node\u2019s hardware;<\/li>\n<li>a <strong>virtual machine console<\/strong> shows that VM\u2019s resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A container may show host CPU topology even when CPU quotas limit the resources it can use.<\/p>\n<h2>What If the Numbers Do Not Match?<\/h2>\n<p>First compare the results with <strong>your actual order<\/strong>, rather than the maximum specifications of the CPU model.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Confirm that you are checking the correct server.<\/li>\n<li>For a VPS, compare the allocated vCPU count.<\/li>\n<li>For a dedicated server, record all CPU instances and online logical processors.<\/li>\n<li>Send support your service ID, expected and observed counts, and a screenshot or command output.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>SMT\/Hyper-Threading settings, disabled cores, virtualization and operating system limits can affect the reported numbers. A mismatch alone does not prove a CPU hardware fault.<\/p>\n<p>Do not change BIOS settings, boot options or reinstall the operating system to \u201cunlock\u201d cores before identifying the cause. The hosting provider handles physical hardware checks in the datacenter.<\/p>\n<h2>Understanding RAM and Storage Capacity<\/h2>\n<p><strong>RAM<\/strong> is working memory used by running applications. It is separate from file storage.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2 \u00d7 2 TB<\/strong> means two drives with a capacity of 2 TB each.
